This season has not gone as planed for the Seattle Kraken.
The team currently sits in 7th place in the Pacific Division, only ahead of the league-worst San Jose Sharks.
Through 57 games the team has a 24-29-4 record and a -14 goal differential.
As a result, the team is expected to be sellers at the upcoming trade deadline, which is now just weeks away.
Now we are starting to hear who could be leaving the team.
According to Sportsnet reporter Jacob Stoller, the team is shopping former Toronto Maple Leafs forward Jared McCann.
McCann, 28, is in the prime of his career and is one of the best players on the Kraken.
This season he has 14 goals and 42 points through 57 games, and ever since he joined the Kraken he has been a consistent leader for the team on and off the ice.
He even scored 40 goals during the 2022-23 season, leading the team in that department as they made an unlikely run to the playoffs.
Sadly though, it seems as though that era of Kraken hockey is already over.
The team does not look very competitive at all and surely won't be making the playoffs this year.
It might be hard for fans to see an original team player leave, but it is all part of the business, and would probably be best for the long-term health of the team.
The Kraken should be able to get quite a lot in return for McCann considering his age, scoring ability, defensive responsibility, and the fact that he is under contract for two more seasons after this one.
