According to former NHL defenseman Jordan Schmaltz, brother of Utah HC forward Nick Schmaltz, Hall of Fame GM Ken Holland is potentially joining the management team of Utah HC next season.
Schmaltz himself broke the news earlier today, while prominent NHL insiders Frank Seravalli and Elliotte Friedman added their input to a possible move.
Arguably the most iconic hockey manager, Holland is best remembered for his multiple-decade run with the Detroit Red Wings, where he led the team to four Stanley Cup championships. Most recently, he served as general manager of the Edmonton Oilers, but his contract was not renewed this offseason, leaving him without a current NHL role.
With the reported addition of Holland to Utah HC, he would bring a great deal of experience and leadership to the club in their desire to round out the roster and management structure. The past success, coupled with the ability to build competitive teams, may signal a major shift in the ambitions of the team going forward.
This has not been officially announced by the Utah HC, but confirmation should come very soon, and supporters are dying to hear news about this high-profile addition.
