Elliotte Friedman shares the major hangup for a JT Miller blockbuster trade to the Rangers
J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson are feuding and it will likely only be resolved with one getting traded. Elliotte Friedman has shared a major hangup there will be for a Miller trade to the New York Rangers.
Back in 2011, The New York Rangers drafted JT Miller in the first round 15th overall with the hopes of him one day becoming a superstar for them. However, he was traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning before he could break out.
After just a season and a half in Tampa, Miller was moved to the Canucks where he finally broke out. In his first year in Vancouver, Miller scored 72 points in 69 games. He would later reach new levels notching 99 points and 103 points in separate seasons proving to be one of the best players in the NHL.
Now, his feud with Elias Pettersson has thrust his name into trade rumors, and the team that originally drafted him, the New York Rangers, are among the top suitors for Miller.
However, there is a major hangup for a potential trade according to Elliotte Friedman. Here are the insider's comments:
«I do think the Rangers are interested, but I don't know how easy that match is going to be,» Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman on the 32 Thoughts Podcast.
«If Vancouver wanted to do Zibanejad and again Zibanejad has a no-move clause too, so he'd have to want to do it, I think that could be done already. I'm not banking on that.
«The guy I could see Vancouver really liking is Schneider, but I'm not convinced at all the Ranger would want to do that, as a matter of fact, I'm convinced they wouldn't just because I think they want to keep Schneider.»
It appears that one of the largest hang-ups is the Rangers having high hopes for their 2020 1st round pick Braden Schneider.
Schneider has already played in 243 career NHL games being a regular for the Rangers since 2021. He is a solid young piece with a decently high ceiling but he may never unlock that in the Rangers development system.
However, if he can unleash his full potential, the Rangers will be happy to keep him around as he could be a fantastic compliment to Adam Fox. Only time will tell if the Rangers make a move for Miller and if they do, if it includes Braden Schneider.
