Robin Lehner has been away from the game of hockey since the 2021-22 season due to various health problems. Despite not playing many around the league believed Robin Lehner would still at least be in attendance for the start of the Vegas Golden Knights training camp to take his physical. This ended up not being the case and Robin Lehner was not seen or heard from but today that all changed with a new statement.
In a new piece done by Sportsnet Robin Lehner spoke about his future in the NHL. According to the statement from Robin Lehner he has made it clear to all those involved why he is not at training camp as he awaits things to be cleared up.
This statement from Robin Lehner is a stark difference from the one made by Vegas Golden Knights General Manager Kelly McCrimmon. When the Golden Knights made a statement they confirmed Robin Lehner was unfit to play but made it seem as though he was unwilling to report to training camp.
With this news coming out it seems as though Robin Lehner's successful NHL career could be coming to an end. After struggles with addiction, Robin Lehner came out the other side and became a Vezina Trophy-level goaltender for the Vegas Golden Knights and New York Islanders. At his best Robin Lehner posted a 2.13 goals against average and a 0.930 save percentage with the New York Islanders.
Now, with the NHL season approaching rapidly, it is clear that the 2024-25 NHL season will not involve Robin Lehner on an NHL roster. Hopefully, Robin Lehner is getting the proper support and care he needs to deal with whatever is keeping him away from the game he loves so much. As more information is provided, we will continue to update this situation.
