Over the past few years, the NHL Draft has become one of the most watched events on the calendar, and in 2024 at The Sphere in Las Vegas, it was an incredible event packed full of surprises and big moments. That event saw the San Jose Sharks draft Macklin Celebrini with the No. 1 overall draft pick, and with so much talent expected to come out in 2025, this should be just as fun.
Now, NHL Insider David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period has revealed some brand new details about the 2025 edition, revealing that it will be held at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles, an arena that seats around 7,100 people.
While that's a new piece of information, the biggest change to the event has also been revealed, with General Manager's and front office executives set to miss the event, making it more like the NBA or NFL Drafts where it is just the prospects in the arena. This could be taken as a good or a bad change, with so many fans enjoying the different feeling that the NHL provides, but now the attention will be solely on those prospects looking to make their lifelong dreams come true.
After the 2024 NHL Draft, Elliotte Friedman revealed that the league could potentially be looking to change things to four rounds, and while that won't be something that's fought for until the new CBA, it's clear that changes could be coming. With so many talented players expected at the 2025 NHL Draft with one of the most loaded lottery's in recent memory, this is set to be a night to remember, and if all goes well with the big change, don't be surprised if the NHL makes it a permanent one.
