Alex Ovechkin suffers awful injury during game in Russia
Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin was playing a hockey game in Russia that was known as the "Match of the Year", and suffered a terrible injury.
There was an all-star game in Russia that featured all of the best Russian players in the NHL versus all of the best KHL Russian players. Reports came out that Ovechkin had to be removed from Sergei Mozyakin's farewell match due to a knee injury.
Some good news is that the knee injury doesn't appear to be too serious, which will likely only stop Alexander Ovechkin from training for about one week or so. However, it still had his coach and fans concerned, which is why out of caution he was removed from the game that was not even supposed to be physical anyways.
"This injury is not too serious and did not prevent Ovechkin from playing in the Game of the Year a week ago," said a source from Match TV.
"But now Alexander has decided to take care of himself so that he can begin full training in 10 days."
10 days isn't too bad all things considered, and he should definitely be ready when training camps open in about eight weeks.
Alex Ovechkin finished last season with the Washington Capitals scoring 31 goals and 34 assists in 79 games. He is 41 goals away from tying Wayne Gretzky's all-time NHL goal record.
