Nick Jensen knocked out and stretchered off against the Lightning

Washington Capitals defenseman Nick Jensen found himself in a terrible situation this afternoon. After a huge hit from Michael Eyssimont, Nick Jensen was on the ice knocked out being attended to by medical personnel.

Just minutes into the game between two of the Eastern Conference's top teams tragedy struck. A big hit along the boards from Lightning forward Michael Eyssimont left Nick Jensen in major pain.

Washington's Nick Jensen had to leave the game on a stretcher after receiving a hit from Tampa Bay's Michael Eyssimont.

There was no penalty on the play.

Unfortunately for Nick Jensen, he would need to be stretchered off the ice and further evaluated by medical personnel. The play in question did not end up leading to a penalty against the Lightning despite the major injury.

Shortly after he was stretchered off the Washington Capitals provided an update on Nick Jensen's condition. Luckily the initial reports are positive for the time being.

#Caps defenseman Nick Jensen sustained an injury after a collision with Tampa Bay's player Michael Eyssimont in the first period. Jensen is conscious, alert and has the use of all his extremities. He will continue to be monitored by the team's medical personnel.

With such a frustrating and dangerous hit it is positive that Nick Jensen is doing okay. Hopefully, he continues to improve over the next few hours and days. If the Washington Capitals provide more information on the situation we will pass it along to you.
