Hockey is one of the fastest and most physical contact sports in the world. As a result, injuries are common, especially with accidental plays. Today Buffalo Sabres defenseman Owen Power was the latest to go down after he took a puck to the face.

The 21-year-old blueliner was the victim of an unfortunate play today as he was hit squarely in the face by a puck in a highly unusual way.

Scary moment as Owen Power takes a puck to the face

He immediately exited the ice and went to the locker room

Red Wings forward David Perron was attempting to score from behind the goal line by banking the puck off the side of the goalie's helmet. Instead, he missed the goalie entirely, sending the puck sailing towards the blueline, the exact opposite direction the puck is usually moving in the offensive zone. Power, who had positioned himself in front of the net, was the unlucky player to be in the puck's path as the raising shot connected with his mouth.

Perron tried to bank a shot in off the goalie and hit Owen Power in the face, he was bleeding (no blood in the video)

The young Sabres defenseman immediately went down the tunnel to get repairs done on his face. Needless to say, he will have some serious dental work in the near future. Power was drafted 1st overall by Buffalo in the 2021 draft. Since then, he's played in 158 career NHL games, racking up 12 goals and 69 points in the process.
