As a hockey fan, you cannot help but cheer on Alexander Ovechkin as he chases Wayne Gretzky's goal record of 894. Currently at 820 goals, Ovechkin is just 74 away from tying the record and 75 from breaking it.

We have been graced with watching Ovechkin dominate the goal scoring races since 2005 when he entered the league. One could argue that if it weren't for 2 lockouts during his career and two COVID shortened seasons, Ovechkin could already own the goal scoring record.

Tuesday night against the Columbus Blue Jackets, Alex Ovechkin scored his 40th goal of the season, which marks the 13th time in his career that he has reached this mark, which is the most by any player in history, Wayne Gretzky is 2nd with 12.

After the game, a well know and very well respected NHL reporter, Tom Gulitti asked Ovechkin about this record after the game, which Ovechkin took the opportunity to poke a little fun at Gulitti:

Ovechkin on breaking NHL record with 13th 40-goal season:

"«Yeah, it's a pretty cool moment. It doesn't matter what kind of record it is. It's a record, you know.

"How many records do you have?"

Me: "Zero records."

Ovechkin. "Yeah, so you see.»

Good on Gulitti for laughing this off, but he did come back shortly after this tweet with remembering a record of his own:

I realized after this exchange that I still hold the record for most ice cream bars eaten at a U.S. Open. from 2002 at Bethpage Black.

Love it!
