Whether it's the pressure of the team they play for, not the right fit for the players, wasn't developed properly, there are lots of reasons and just sometimes things don't work out.
Well, in 2012, the Montreal Canadiens drafted Alex Galchenyuk 3rd overall, and when he started his career, he looked like he was going to turn into an NHL star.
A few seasons later he was traded away and has been on team after team after team every since.
After playing with the Coyotes last season, he was signed by the Colorado Avalanche this offseason to a PTO. He was then released from the PTO after suffering and injury. A few weeks later he signed an AHL contract to play with the Colorado Eagles, where he actually played very well.
Just 7 games into his AHL season the Avalanche liked what they saw and signed him to an NHL contract.
Well, after just 3 games with the Avalanche where he had 0 points and was a -3 plus/minus, the Avalanche have put him on waivers.

A once highly touted prospect, he is now 28 years old and isn't considered a young up and comer anymore. This was viewed by many as his last chance to prove he could be an NHL player, it seems more likely now that his time in the NHL has come to an end.
He is obviously a very skilled player who can produce in other leagues, but he cannot seem to be consistent enough for the NHL.
