The Detroit Red Wings have already made one splash this summer when they acquired Alex DeBrincat from the Ottawa Senators, and now they've made another big trade.
A veteran blue liner
According to a report, the Wings have now landed veteran Jeff Petry from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for Gustav Lindstrom and a 2025 fifth-round pick.
At 35-years old, Petry will be a veteran presence on the blue line for Detroit as they look to climb back into the playoffs for the first time in over seven seasons with their talented young core.
A good presence
In 2022-23, Petry tallied 5 goals and 31 points for the Pittsburgh Penguins, and will now look to help the Red Wings break their playoff drought after being traded just a week ago to Montreal.
This is a deal that makes sense for both parties, and if the Red Wings can see significant improvements from their young core, this could be a team to watch out for.
