It was rumoured this morning that the Philadelphia Flyers have made an official offer to John Tortorella this morning, but the details have not been released yet. But apparently Tortorella was not their first choice.
According to our friends at FlyersInsider.com, the Flyers offered free agent coach Barry Trotz a massive deal which was worth $7 million per season.

According to two Flyers sources, Trotz, who started narrowing down his potential landing spots Monday, turned down an offer from the Flyers early on Tuesday, which led to the Flyers pivoting to Tortorella (...) the Flyers contract offer would have allegedly made Trotz the highest paid coach in NHL history (I don't have exact figures, but one source indicated that the offer was for more than $7 million each year)
Barry Trotz is a Stanley Cup winning coach, and is one of the winningest coaches of all time, with his pedigree he wants to go to a contender who has a legitimate chance at a cup. The Flyers had a very poor season and are 'retooling' so odds are they are atleast a few seasons away from being a contender, so at this point in Barry Trotz's career, thats most likely not something he would be interested in.
