Colorado Avalanche forward, Valeri Nichushkin, is currently under investigation for an incident during the playoffs against the Seattle Kraken. The case came into the spotlight following the discovery of a heavily intoxicated woman in his hotel room. However, the details of the incident have been somewhat vague so far.
Since the incident, video footage from the Seattle Police Department has emerged. The footage was released on Thursday, following a public disclosure request made by The Seattle Times. It depicts the response of officers Joshua Knight and Ryan Beecroft to a behavioral crisis call at the Four Seasons Hotel on the afternoon of April 22.
Over 40 Minutes Of Video Surfaced
The video reveals Avalanche team physician, Dr. Bradley Changstrom, informing Officer Knight in the hotel's main lobby that the 28-year-old woman had been found in Nichushkin's company by the team staff approximately 90 minutes prior to the 911 call for medical assistance. Changstrom is heard saying on the video that team officials "attempted to separate them into different rooms" before Nichushkin left the premises with the team's security chief.
Changstrom is also seen on the footage stating, "We were trying to remove her from the room. She was very clearly intoxicated. I could not in good conscience allow her to leave in an Uber due to concerns for her safety."
According to the video, Changstrom was either inside the room or standing outside the door for roughly "an hour and a half to two hours" before the woman was brought to the hotel lobby by team personnel to await the arrival of first responders. Previously released public records suggest that it took approximately five minutes for first responders to reach the scene after the 911 call was made at 3:20 p.m.
Changstrom also revealed that he could not account for the events of "the preceding 12 hours before that" or the duration that the woman had spent in the room with Nichushkin. It is known that the Avalanche forward did not attend the team's morning skate about four hours prior to the 911 call.
Avalanche Fail To Comment
The Avalanche organization has refrained from commenting on why Nichushkin departed the team just hours before Game 3 of a playoff series, which the Kraken went on to win in seven games. Nichushkin did not play again in the series and has not been seen in public since the incident. However, Avalanche coach Jared Bednar stated at the time that he had been maintaining contact with the player.
