Carey Price, while not formally retired, has publicly stated that he won't play another game in the NHL because of his knee injury. Price has not played a game since 2022, and is on LTIR with the Canadiens. He still has 3 years left (including this one) on his contract, earning $10.5 million annually.
Now, Price has opened up regarding whether or not he would be willing to waive his NTC in order to help the Canadiens with Salary Cap constraints.
It's clear that the Montreal Canadiens have a special place in Carey Price's heart, and he is still willing to do anything for the team. While it may seem insignificant, since Price won't play again, a trade would mean Price would end his career on a team other than the Canadiens.
Kent Hughes is now tasked with the difficult challenge of moving Carey Price's contract in order to open up cap space and take the Canadiens to the next level. A move will put the team in a better position for future acquisitions that could help them make a run for the Stanley Cup.
