After a year in the AHL with the Chicago Wolves, Drury split this past season with Chicago and Carolina, where he was productive in Chicago, but struggled to find ice time in Carolina.
Drury has been blocked at his natural center ice position by Sebastian Aho, Jordan Staal, and Jesperi Kotkaniemi.
With rumors of Alex DeBrincat wanting out of Ottawa, maybe the Hurricanes can accommodate Drury's request and send him to Canada's capital. The Hurricanes are in need of elite wingers and Ottawa may be the perfect place for Drury to get a fresh start and more playing time.
The new Vancouver Canucks regime has made it clear that they are not rebuilding, but are trying to offload as much salary as possible.
Both Brock Boeser and Conor Garland have been entrenched in the Rumor Mill for a long time and fit the scoring winger need in Carolina. This would be a good way for the Canucks to clear cap space while gaining a young player who better fits their timeline.
The Columbus Blue Jackets are desperate for NHL centers, and could offer draft picks for Drury. The Jackets currently have eight picks in this upcoming draft.
Finally, the Winnipeg Jets have an unhappy star player in Pierre-Luc Dubois. The centerman has long voiced his desire to go play in his hometown of Montreal. While Carolina is not that place, Dubois can be seen as a strict rental for Carolina in their Stanley Cup push for next year. Drury represents a need for the Jets, a young cheap center who can step into their lineup right away and contribute.
