Toronto fans were shocked the day it was announced that Kyle Dubas was fired. While it is unfortunate for them, it was more unfortunate for Dubas whose livelihood came from the Leafs.
In his final press conference with the media as the Leafs' GM, he said this:
He signed with the Penguins just under two weeks later.
In Dubas' first press conference as the President of Hockey Operations in Pittsburgh, he said this about his final press conference in Toronto.
Quite interesting considering he went back on his word on what he said about not leaving. While it took him more than a week to pop up elsewhere, it was a figure of speech and interpreted as Dubas not taking a job anywhere else anytime soon.
Dubas also shared how this was a family decision that he and his wife discussed for a long time. They described it as an opportunity they did not want to pass by because Dubas would get full reigns.
At the end of the day, Dubas has received a promotion and will now get to display his full potential without anybody above him rejecting every move he makes.
