Mike Babcock is one of the most controversial head coaches to have ever coached at the NHL level, partially thanks to his almost militaristic attitude. He's been known to make players cry and lost his job with Toronto as a result of his coaching style. Players have been vocal about their disdain for Babcock, but a new statement just labeled him as a "scumbag".
Comrie Takes Aim at Babcock
Former NHL player Mike Comrie made a public statement recently, in which he called out Mike Babcock as a bully.
"Morning folks. I was gonna leave this alone cause frankly I'm sick and tired of seeing Mike Babcock's name in all my feeds but here we are. Mike Babcock, head coach, back in the NHL. Babs the bully gets another chance. Am I disappointed? Yes, I am disappointed. Am I surprised? No, I'm not. His whole retirement thing was a load of horseshit right off the bat."
"I'm sure he walked into the Columbus office and told the brass whatever they wanted to hear. 'Oh I've changed' blah blah blah, which is another load of horseshit. Babs the bully ain't changing. Scumbags like that don't change. With all due respect to my buddies within the Blue Jackets organization, I hope this Babcock experiment is a complete disaster on every single level."
Comrie certainly didn't hold back with his comments toward the veteran head coach.
Babcock Gets a Second Chance
All signs point towards Mike Babcock being named the next head coach of the Columbus Blue Jackets, which could be a disaster. Star players such as Patrik Laine have struggled with authoritative coaches such as John Tortorella in the past, and it didn't end well.
Maybe Babcock truly has turned over a new leaf, but it's unlikely that his coaching style has changed too much.
We'll have to wait and see the results, but it doesn't look good for Columbus.
