The draft is fast approaching and the Montreal Canadiens hold the first overall pick with a difficult dilemma, they have 2 top draft choices in Juraj Slafkovsky and Shane Wright and need to make a decision soon!
According to Pierre LeBrun of TSN, the Montreal Canadiens and New Jersey Devils are discussing a trade regarding the 1st and 2nd overall picks in the upcoming draft.
« Pierre Lebrun mentioning that New Jersey contacted Montreal to move up a selection (from the 2nd pick to the 1st pick overall) to take Slafkovsky is completely consistent with what I've heard from my sources, regarding the Devils preferring Slaf to Wright. Rumour has it that MTL likes Slaf more too, though." - Grant McCagg
The Montreal Canadiens like both Juraj Slafkovsky and Shane Wright and the New Jersey Devils already have their centermen set for the long future with Nico Hischier, Jack Hughes and Pavel Zacha, so an elite scoring winger would be the prize jewel for the Devils, while the Canadiens could benefit from moving down a spot and taking the additional assets that the Devils will add in to move up. With either player the Canadiens will greatly benefit but if the Habs can bring in a prospect or additional pick from the Devils and still select Shane Wright, they will be laughing.
