The Vancouver Canucks are off to a solid start in 2023-24, and with the contract decision of their biggest star looming, the rest of this season will be crucial to the future of the organization.
A superstar in the making
After the first 100 point season of his career, Pettersson is playing 2023-24 during a contract season, and with so much on the line, you can bet he'll be just as good this time around.
With such a high profile name, the contract situation is an interesting one to keep an eye on, and while nothing could get done this summer, there's still plenty of belief in Vancouver that they can make it happen.
An intriguing update
Recently, Elliotte Friedman interviewed the young star, and his update on the potential contract situation is an intriguing and positive one for Canucks fans.
The impression I got from my interview with Elias Pettersson was he wants to play somewhere where winning matters. And he knows he can get that in Vancouver. If they can prove to him that they're trending in the right direction, I believe he will sign. Unsurprisingly, winning is the most important thing to Pettersson, and now, if Vancouver can prove to him they're headed that way, a deal is likely, but with so much left to happen in 2023-24, this could go a number of different ways.
