Philadelphia has run into a scheduling problem between their two big-market sports franchises and a co-owner of the 76ers of the NBA had something to say about it.
76ers Claim Unfair Scheduling
Co-owner David Adelman spoke his opinion on this growing situation and stated that he believes that the Wells Fargo Center has a preference towards the Flyers and the NHL over the 76ers. He went on to say that he thinks that the Flyers get overall better selection and choosing dates for games and special events over them and he has had enough.
"When you look at our schedule, we play more 5-out-of-7 nights and more back to backs than anyone else in the league, on average. We've been home once for Christmas the last 11 years....The way the schedule works is the Flyers get their dates, the concerts get their dates, and then we get the rest. You don't see us with a lot of weekend day games, but you see the Flyers with a lot of them."
The 76ers have the reiging MVP of the NBA on their team in Joel Embiid, but Adelman went on to say that he feels that there is no other contributing factors to level out the field between the two franchises.
Flyers Speak Back
The chairman of the Flyers, Dan Hilferty, responded to these accusations of unfairness in favor of the Flyers and said that he was disturbed and upset by the comments that Adelman made and went on to say how the 76ers are not at any point of scheduling disadvantage.
"What is true is that we have a fair, back-and-forth, shared approach to scheduling. Sometimes we win, sometimes (the Sixers) win.....just based on whose turn it is. Nobody has an advantage. And 98% of the events that we'd like to have here, we get here. But it's the one thing that does upset me about the rhetoric that's coming from the Sixers is that they're disadvantaged in that way."
As the unimpressed feelings of the 76ers get voiced to the Flyers and Wells Fargo Center, we will see if this debate between the two grows into something more, or if there is a common ground that all parties can come to.
