They have an abundance of young talent that have taken over the team, and the best thing for them is they have just as much being groomed in the minors. The Devils have been interested in adding a big body to put into the top 6 and Montreal is the perfect trade partner.
The Montreal Canadiens are supposed to be in the middle of a rebuild, but they have yet to start trading away their players. There was a lot of interest in some of them this offseason but Kent Hughes refused to pull the trigger on any trades as he believed he could get more for his players during the season.
Insider Marc-Olivier Beaudoin made a point today that it's now or never for the Montreal Canadiens to start moving players:
Les Devils sont intéressés à acquérir Josh Anderson?
Je persiste et signe: C'est le moment ou jamais d'échanger Anderson. Son contrat sera lourd quand le #CH sera compétitif.
Les Devils ont une excellente pépinière de jeunes talents... c'est un bon "fit"! #Habs #Canadiens https://t.co/bu0L52Fsgp Marc-Olivier Beaudoin (@MOBeaudoin1) December 6, 2022
Anderson is the prototypical power forward, he is a big body, can play infront of the net and has great skating ability. In previous seasons he has shown he has a scoring touch as well, being on pace for 20+ goals on multiple occasions.
He is only a few seasons into a contract that carries a cap hit of $5,500,000, but if he can produce at what he is capable of, while playing a big bodied game, the contract is very valuable.
What Anderson brings is what the Devils are missing in their top 6. They have young players like Nolan Foote, Alexander Holtz and some huge name defenceman that are of interest to the Habs in Luke Hughes and Simon Nemec.
This definitely will not be a 1 for 1 deal between the Habs and Devils, but they both have the assets that could make a deal to benefit each other.
