Things have not gone the way Brock Boeser has wanted this year and it was the final straw for him the other night when the Canucks decided to make him a healthy scratch for the "hockey fights cancer" night. Many are probably aware that his father passed away not too long ago to cancer, so this night meant a lot to him. After an injury, he did end up playing and scoring a goal, but the team has given him permission to seek out a trade.
Boeser is only 25, has 16 points in 20 games this season and has scored 20+ 4 times in his career already, including a 29 goal season in only 62 games. He is currently on the first year of a new three-year deal that pays $6,650,000 AAV.
It was announced yesterday that due to his cap hit, it could be difficult for the Canucks to find fair value right now.
According to NHL Insider, Pierre LeBrun from TSN, six teams are currently looking into acquiring Boeser.
The unfortunate news is that LeBrun did not specify the teams, but with the offence Boeser is capable of putting up, there is definitely teams in need.
The only issue teams are probably looking at is Boeser's health. In every season, Boeser has missed 11+ games each year. Teams do not want to make a commitment to someone who cannot remain healthy.
It's also important to note that the Canucks are most likely looking for a team who can take on his cap hit without sending anyone in return, so most likely just picks. The Canucks captain Bo Horvat is currently a UFA at the end of this season and the Canucks would like to re-sign him, so they would need to use the free'd up cap space from Boeser to do that.
