Both the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Winnipeg Jets are loaded with talent and maybe believe that both teams could and should be contending for cups each season, but the problem is, the Maple Leafs can't get past the first round and the Winnipeg Jets didn't even make the playoffs last year.

Both need help in different areas, the Maple Leafs desperately need help on their defence and the Winnipeg Jets could use some help scoring.

NHL Insider Frank Seravalli proposed a trade between the Winnipeg Jets and Toronto Maple Leafs that he believes would be mutually beneficial.

The Jets have quite a few defenceman, so many that former 20th overall pick Ville Heinola can't even make it into the lineup. He has been back and forth between the NHL and AHL but him and his agent believe he is better than anyone they currently have on their Jets defence core currently playing. Nothing has come public about a trade request yet, but if he doesn't start getting some playing time, that could come soon.

The Toronto Maple Leafs actually have the opposite problem, they have so many players capable of being top 6 forwards they don't have the room to let prospects play. Enter Nick Robertson.

Robertson has been a goal scoring machine everywhere he has played, and through 10 games this season in the NHL he has 2 goals and 3 assists, mainly playing middle 6 minutes.

Could this be a trade that both teams would be interested in?

Friday morning musing. Trade proposition, given the injuries to both teams and the positional needs: #nhljets Ville Heinola for #leafs Nick Robertson.

Same age. Similar upside. Similar risk. Same waiver exemption. Similar contracts/cap hits.
