This two-time cup champion is in danger of not returning to the NHL after this announcement that he won't return to play this year.

Treliving Announces Muzzin Will Not Play This Season for the Leafs

Today, Leafs general manager Brad Treliving made a big announcement on Jake Muzzin's injury status.

Brad Treliving says Jake Muzzin won't be participating this season. Matt Murray will require significant surgery and rehab and that will take place sometime this week. Won't go into the details of what the injury is for Murray.

Jake Muzzin will remain on long-term injured reserve.

Muzzin's last game with the Leafs was in October of 2022, where he injured his spine in an awkward fall against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Muzzin Still Active in Leafs Lockerroom and Team Culture

Muzzin is clearly still active with the Leafs as a team, participating in team events where he can and watching practices. While it is unfortunate that he won't make a return this year, his health and quality of life remain the number one priority for the defenceman.

It's not certain when Muzzin is set to make a return to the NHL. Muzzin has played in 683 career games and spent the last 5 seasons with the Maple Leafs. Fans and teammates are hopeful for his recovery and eventual return to the game.
