RUMOR: The Corey Perry Sweepstakes Is Down To Three Contending Teams
Signing Corey Perry: A Calculated Risk for Contending Teams?
A few months after his controversial contract termination in Chicago, multiple contending teams are likely to be interested in the player as he prepares to make a return in the NHL.
"Can confirm that Corey Perry is eligible to sign with any NHL team as a free agent after having his contract terminated by the #blackhawks on Nov. 30.
He would need to sign by the March 8 trade deadline in order to be eligible for this year's playoffs."
Because no details about what happened were released, people doubted that he would come back.
However, Elliotte Friedman revealed new details, suggesting Perry's contract might not have ended if he were with a different team.
"Interesting part on Elliott Friedman's 32TP.
«There is definitely a feeling here that if this had happened on any other team (besides the Chicago Blackhawks) it might not have led to a contract termination» (regarding Corey Perry's terminated contract with the Hawks)"
The Blackhawks, who have been struggling with controversies in recent years, wanted to steer clear of contentious figures, regardless of their skills and reputation, like Perry.
Nevertheless, recent developments indicate that Perry is still attracting significant interest across the league.
Three Top Contenders Leading the Perry Derby
Corey Perry's playoff prowess is well-known, having reached the Stanley Cup Final three ties in the past four years with the Dallas Stars, Montreal Canadiens, and Tampa Bay Lightning.
Rumors now suggest that three teams are in the running to acquire Perry, all with high aspirations for the playoffs: the Toronto Maple Leafs, Edmonton Oilers, and Tampa Bay Lightning.
"Some news concerning Perry I'm hearing that it's down to Toronto, Edmonton, and Tampa"
New developments are expected before the trade deadline and we'll keep you updated.
