Ryan Reaves has been facing a lot of backlash from the media for not standing up to Brad Marchand and he has now been caught in a lie.

Marchand Injures Liljegren

Last Thursday, Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand took Leafs defenseman Timothy Liljegren hard into the boards and ended up taking Liljegren out of the game.

It was later announced that Liljegren would be heading to the LTIR (long-term injured reverse) with a high ankle sprain that was a direct result of this play.

Leafs fans, coaches, and management were upset with the lack of response from the team. GM Brad Treliving went out and acquired a lot of grit in Ryan Reaves, Tyler Bertuzzi, and Max Domi and despite having these three players, Marchand was able to get away with hurting Liljegren.

Reaves Caught In A Lie

Ryan Reaves would later speak on Marchand not facing any repercussions and explained how he was not on the ice with Marchand due to the Bruins having last change.

"First of all, 'Get away from the bench.' Second of all, I guess he was lucky I wasn't out on the ice with him. Yeah, unfortunately they had last chance so I didn't get any shifts against him." - Ryan Reaves

However, it was later exposed that Reaves did in fact have two shifts after the hit where both he and Marchand were on the ice.

The good news is that 75 and 63 would both be on the ice together in two more shifts later in the game

Reaves had previously blamed his lack of response on a lack of opportunity but it is now clear that he had two chances to make Marchand pay for injuring Liljegren.

We will now wait and see if Reaves responds in the Leafs' next game against the Bruins or if he will continue to fail to do what he was brought to Toronto to do.
