Shane Wright has been the projected first overall pick in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft ever since he was granted "exceptional player" status in the Ontario Hockey League to play for the Kingston Frontenacs as an underage player. Not only the Wright not go first overall, he didn't go second or even third, he fell all the way to fourth where the Seattle Kraken were more than happy to take him.
When he had the chance, he let the media know that he will be starting his NHL career with a chip on his shoulder, and judging by the skill this kid possesses, I cannot wait to see the game he plays against the Canadiens, Devils and Coyotes.
Wright was raised in Kingston so he very much wanted to play in Montreal because it is only a few hours away.
When the Montreal Canadiens didn't call his name, it had to hurt, but he kept his cool and stayed positive.
I was drafted by an NHL franchise, I was drafted by team with a lot of potential into a great city with a great fan base. Obviously you want to go first. It's definitely something every guy wants to do going into the Draft. But I couldn't be happier with being in Seattle, being a Kraken and really excited about the future ahead.»
"Definitely going to have a little chip on my shoulder from this for sure. Definitely a little more motivation. I've always been self motivated, pushing myself internally, but this is going to give me a little more fire for sure.
