Hendrix Lapierre proved this year that he has NHL talent and if it weren't for the depth of the Capitals he'd be on an NHL roster right now. Apparently that wasn't enough for the World Juniors brass when selecting the team as Lapierre was one of the last cuts to the team.
Lapierre is the exact sort of player every team needs in these tournaments. His skill set is perfect and he's creative enough to always put the puck on his teammates' sticks in high danger scoring areas. That's why against competitors his own age he's above a point per game.
If it weren't for injury Lapierre likely would have made last year's squad as well and likely would have climbed much higher in the draft. It's hard to believe there is enough talent for Team Canada to leave this can't miss prospect off their tournament roster because we all know just how good he is and how good he's going to be.
Cutting Lapierre shocked me as a Caps fan but even objective observers seem shocked.
