Two-Time Cup Winning Goalie Linked to Canadian Team
The Toronto Maple Leafs' goaltending situation is a big puzzle at the moment.
Until the fates of Matt Murray or Ilya Samsonov are confirmed, the Leafs will be involved in a lot of rumors in that area.
But if everything goes according to plan, Murray should be traded, and Samsonov would re-sign. He would be the number one next season, with Joseph Woll as the backup.
At the moment, one particular scenario has emerged. Honestly, it makes a lot of sense!
Leafs Linked to Two-Time Cup Champion
Larry Brooks of the New York Post linked Brian Elliott to the Maple Leafs.
"Jaro Halak, Brian Elliott, Martin Jones, and Thomas Greiss are out there seeking jobs as backups, with Elliott perhaps on his way to Toronto."
Elliott won two Stanley Cups with the Lightning. Even if Andrei Vasilevskiy was the number one, he still had great experience.
At 38 years old, his numbers aren't bad.
Last season was a bit more difficult for him. In 22 games, he had a 12-8-2 record with a .891 SV% and a 3.40 GAA.
But in 2021-2022, the goalie was phenomenal. In 19 games, he had a record of 11-4-3 with a .912 SV% and a 2.43 GAA.
He still has good hockey left in him and could help younger goalies (like Woll) develop.
