Before the Vegas Golden Knights came into the league, in 2017, Foley predicted that not only would Vegas eventually win the Stanley Cup, that the Golden Knights would do so in six years, a prophetic guess with their defeat of the Florida Panthers in 5 Games.
This has led Twitter, always a rational forum of debate, to speculate that Foley comments were less of an outstanding prediction, but of a more devious attempt at collusion between Vegas and the NHL.
Twitter users quickly claimed that the series was rigged in favor of Vegas.
Former NFL RB Arian Foster popularly claimed earlier in the year that the league was rigged. Foster didn't provide evidence for his claim, but his accusations spread like wildfire whether believed or not.
There's no evidence that the NHL is rigged, and it's highly unlikely to believe so. For the sport to be rigged, Florida would have to go along with it, and would they pass up the cup for the league to have good ratings? Would teams be willing to lose in the playoffs purposefully? It All seems quite doubtful, but to some, the claims persist, or at the very least, the belief for some is that, if it wasn't rigged, Vegas was at least helped.
Are these bitter fans angry at a start-up team quickly topping the ranks of the NHL, or do they have a point? Either way, Vegas are this year's Stanley Cup Champions, and had a terrific season to boost, putting on an incredible show, winning Game 5 against Florida with a knockout 9-3 win.
Rigged game or not, it was a series of fun that Vegas fans won't forget.
