Alex Ovechkin shares his plan to leave for his hometown KHL team
Alex Ovechkin developed through the Dynamo Moskva system and played for them in the KHL for a few seasons before coming to the NHL for the Washington Capitals and now has a plan in place to return to his hometown team in a few years.
Alex Ovechkin is the best player to ever come out of Russia and a large part of this is because of Dynamo Moskva's development of Ovechkin. By the time Ovechkin was 16, he was already debuting for Dynamo Moskva in the top Russian league and he performed well for them for four seasons before coming to the NHL.
It was recently shared that Ovechkin has the desire to one day return home to Moskva and play for his hometown team before he retires, likely in his 40s. Vladimir Fedosov reports the following:
"He said himself that he would finish his career in Dynamo... the white-and-blue fans can definitely sleep easy. If Alexander's health is good, he will be able to play until the age of 45,"
At the moment, Ovechkin is 38 and has two years left on his NHL contract and may wind up leaving at 40 years old after hopefully capturing Wayne Gretzky's all-time goal record which he is only 42 behind.
