Following Team Canada's crushing defeat at the hands of the Czechs, beer cans began raining down on the ice from angry fans in what was an awful scene.

Adam Jecho's power-play marker with 40 seconds remaining in the third period sealed Czechia's dramatic 4-3 win over Canada, sending them to the World Juniors semifinals and eliminating the host nation for the second consecutive year.

It marks the first time in tournament history that Canada has failed to advance past the quarter-finals in back-to-back seasons.

Czechia also got goals from Petr Sikora, Jakub Stancl, and Eduard Sale, while Tanner Howe, Porter Martone, and Bradly Nadeau scored for Canada.

An undisciplined kneeing penalty by Andrew Gibson at 17:33 of the third proved costly as it gave Czechia the winning power play.

Canada battled valiantly in the third, outshooting Czechia 11-2. Nadeau's rebound goal tied the game with just over four minutes remaining and gave hope to the Canadian side.

A would-be tying goal was disallowed earlier when the referee called goalie interference, a call confirmed after a Canadian challenge that led to a minor penalty.

It was a rocky start to the game for Canada, which found itself on its heels just 43 seconds after a defensive breakdown allowed Petr Sikora to open the scoring.

Later in the first, a knee-on-knee hit by Cole Beaudoin drew a five-minute major penalty, during which Czechia scored twice despite a shorthanded effort from Howe.

Frustrated fans pelted the ice with beer cans after the final whistle. In the end, the spirited comeback bids from the host team became just a side story as Czechia capitalized on Canada's penalties and mistakes to ice the victory.

It is similar to the heartbreak last year when the Czech Republic ousted Canada on a late goal in the quarterfinals, and it is the exact same bugger on the world stage again.
