Team Canada is under fire at the 2025 World Juniors tournament, and now a former representative of his country has called out their discipline issues.
Over the past few weeks, Hockey Canada has been the target of much criticism leading into and during their performances at the 2025 World Juniors, and after a loss to Team USA, it's heated up plenty.
On top of their roster decisions before the tournament, Head Coach Dave Cameron has been the face of the criticism for their lineup decisions, and it's simply not going to stop.
Now, NHL analyst and former Maple Leaf Carlo Colaiacovo has called out the team's biggest issue, and that's their discipline that cost them huge in the matchup against the United States.
"When you play for Canada in these types of tournaments, the first thing you're being taught is to check your ego at the door, because it's about playing for the crest on the front, not the name on the back. And the thing that is non-negotiable when you're playing in these short tournaments, you represent your country, the number one thing that is discussed all the time is discipline."
Unfortunately, the talent just hasn't been good enough to be as undisciplined as they have been, with former Team Canada representative Colaiacovo noting just how frustrating it has been for the team and the fans supporting Canada.
" For Canada to be as undisciplined as they've been, not just in the one game, but all tournament and the most frustrating thing to watch as a former player, is when Canada, these Canada players, have taken penalties, and the frustration that these players have shown when they take in those penalties."
Ultimately, the team is still in with a chance at competing for gold in this tournament, with a matchup against Team Czechia the latest test for them, but unless this discipline gets sorted out, they could be in for yet another disappointing finish.
