There haven't been many developments on Mark Giordano since the off-season began, and many began to wonder when the 40-year-old would announce his retirement. Giordano did the exact opposite of that, shocking fans around the league when he recently said he wants to continue playing in the NHL.
Giordano's agent confirmed his client's intentions to continue playing hockey in the league while being interviewed by the Toronto Star's Kevin McGran.
Giordano sadly had a career-low in points last season with the Toronto Maple Leafs, only managing to accumulate nine in the 46 games he played. That could be a major red flag for teams worried about how his age is affecting his calibre of play, however Giordano and his agent remain confident that he can still offer good things to certain teams.
There aren't any deals close to be done regarding Giordano at the moment, however chances are higher that teams would rather sign him to a PTO first, before offering him an actual contract. At his age, teams would likely prefer seeing what he can do in training camp and then decide if they feel a roster spot is right for him on their club.
Mark Giordano has played in 1,148 career NHL games, scoring 158 goals and adding 419 assists.
