Surprising Favorite To Land An NHL Expansion Team Emerges
Today a post on X has circulated and generated buzz regarding NHL expansion. The post links to an article from the Houston Chronicle in which they reveal that Houston Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta is pushing to bring an NHL team to the city.
Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta says talks to bring the NHL to Houston have picked up of late as he sees a hockey team as a way to boost the downtown economy.
Fertitta is the latest in a line of people hoping to get in on an NHL franchise. To this point, both Salt Lake City and Atlanta have been considered major contenders. Now Fertitta believes he has the best case to be the next NHL owner.
NBA Owner Looking To Bring Hockey To Houston
When talking about possible NHL expansion Fertitta is quite passionate. He believes that the active and growing city of Houston could be a good investment for the NHL.
«We are talking to the NHL, but it's got to be good for both of us,» Fertitta told Bloomberg. «We just know that when there's a concert downtown how it activates downtown. We know what the Astros do for downtown. We know what even soccer does for downtown.»
With Houston already having a strong sports culture it would be a safe bet to bring another team to the city. With an arena in place as well it could provide the most seamless transition with the most upside to do well.
