In an extremely shocking move, the New York Rangers have announced that Chris Kreider is going to be a healthy scratch tonight, fueling trade speculation.

The Rangers are surprisingly healthy-scratching veteran winger Chris Kreider for today's tilt against the Devils according to Peter Baugh of 'The Athletic'.

Taking out a pair of late-season precautionary scratches in 2017 and 2022, this will be the first time since his rookie year in 2013-14 that Chris Kreider will be a fully healthy scratch.

Kreider's rough 2024-25 season has been one of the biggest storylines. Coming off three consecutive seasons with at least 35 goals, he's scored just 11 this season in 30 games, adding an assist for 12 points and a -4 rating, his first negative mark since 2020-21.

Getting an average of 17:26 of ice time per game, the usage is the lowest it has been since the 2020-21 campaign.

Moreover, his production has slipped even lower, as he's recorded just three points in 11 games since Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reported on November 25 that the Rangers were shopping Kreider and former captain Jacob Trouba in trade talks.

It isn't clear whether Kreider sits solely for performance or as a pre-trade injury precaution, but with nothing imminent, today's game represents the last one before the roster freeze ends on December 28.
