In a shocking turn of events, Sean Higgins will not have his case listened to by a judge today as it has been postponed for another week, keeping him in jail.

The man who's accused of causing a fatal drunk driving crash that claimed the life of hockey player Johnny Gaudreau and his little brother Matthew Gaudreau was back in court this week-end, looking very different than during his first court appearance. Sean Higgins is the criminal.

The 43-year-old appeared in virtual court in New Jersey on Thursday, now in a smock, unlike that which he wore previously. He was in a standard-issue orange jumpsuit, with a thick goatee contrasting his jailhouse appearance earlier in the case.

The judge was scheduled to rule on pretrial release conditions for Higgins, but he called off the hearing after just a few minutes. Until then, Sean Higgins will remain behind bars until his next scheduled court appearance in September.

It was Higgins' second public court appearance since the accident on August 29 in which he allegedly struck Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau from behind as they cycled along a sparsely traveled road in Salem County. In the first hearing on August 30, Higgins seemed to have no remorse as he was told his detention was being extended.

He is indicted on two counts of vehicular homicide following his reported admission to police that he had consumed "5-6 beers" before the accident.

Tributes continue to pour in following the tragedy, as the Gaudreau brothers remain in the thoughts of fans. On Wednesday night, both the Calgary Flames and Columbus Blue Jackets, for whom Johnny has played, held emotional candlelight vigils at their respective arenas in honor of the siblings.
