Back in 2020, Yaroslav Askarov was widely regarded as the best goaltending prospect since Carey Price. There were rumors that he could go as high as 5th overall but he fell to 11th overall where the Nashville Predators swooped in and took the Russian netminder.
Four years later, and Askarov has come over to North America and has solidified himself as the number one goaltending prospect in the world. With the Milwaukee Admirals of the AHL, Askarov posted a .911 sv% and a 2.39 GAA. He also got into two NHL games where he posted stellar numbers.
On most teams, Askarov would already be a full-time NHLer but in Nashville, he has some stiff competition with Juuse Saros ahead of him. This has led to Asakarov requesting a trade in order to become the true number one goaltending for a franchise.
We now know what it will cost for NHL teams to acquire Askarov's services moving forward and the price seems to be quite high.
If Askarov comes as advertised, this should be a small price to pay but considering how we are only a month and a half out from the NHL season, time is dwindling for a deal to be made this offseason.
Only time will tell where the talented Russian netminder will head to but if Askarov were to have it his way, it would certainly not be back to Nashville or Milwaukee.
