As P.K. Subban did his segment on X talking about the Stanley Cup finals he talked about the two perceived best teams in the NHL. The New York Rangers are on pace to win the President's Trophy but P.K. Subban believes they are not the best team instead he prefers the Colorado Avalanche.
During his analysis, P.K. Subban spoke about the difference in the effectiveness of their stars. He heavily prefers Nathan MacKinnon over Rangers forward Artemi Panarin. He also likes Cale Makar over Adam Fox. Finally, he prefers the other stars for the Avalanche including Mikko Rantanen and trade deadline acquisition Casey Mittelstadt over the New York Rangers supplementary stars such as Vincent Trocheck and Chris Kreider.
While this analysis is sound P.K. Subban could be underrating one specific area of the New York Rangers that could make all the difference.
Arguably the best player on the New York Rangers goes unmentioned by the former NHL superstar. Goaltender Igor Shesterkin is one of the best goaltenders in the world and in the past has stolen several playoff games.
The New York Rangers did of course end up beating the Colorado Avalanche last night. They did so in part due to a 39-save performance from Igor Shesterkin. On top of that the defensive group that P.K. Subban said could not shut down Nathan MacKinnon kept him off the scoreboard.
