NHL insider reveals intriguing trade possibility for Boston Bruins defenseman
Elliotte Friedman recently suggested that the Boston Bruins could trade defenseman Nikita Zadorov back to one of his former clubs.
That club in question would be none other than the Vancouver Canucks, who traded for Zadorov last season from the Calgary Flames.
Zadorov was a huge success in Vancouver, and there were numerous reports that the team made a serious effort to re-sign him so it makes sense that they would be interested in trading for him.
This appears to be part of Friedman's logic as he suggests the team could make a move for him.
"Weird idea that may only make sense to me: Nikita Zadorov back to Vancouver. No idea if even possible, or if anyone would want it, but he was a good fit and the Canucks miss him."
Senior Athletic writer Thomas Drance went on the Donnie and Dhali show to discuss Friedman's unusual idea. This is what he had to say about it.
" I think where the Zadorov concept gets a little more interesting is when you think about the dearth of options on the Market. The cost is going to be prohibitive. If you're going to spend in this market, you want to make sure it's going to be a guy that fits long term. Zadorov has term, he has five years left on his deal, he's not just a fit for this year."
This is certainly an intriguing option for the Canucks. It is very rare to see a player with so much term left on his deal to be traded, but it actually sounds like it might be in consideration.
While a trade remains unlikely, it is certainly not impossible. It would be great news for the NHL as the deal would get a ton of coverage, bringing interest to the league.
It sounds like we won't hear anything about this possibility any time soon though, so be sure to check back in around the trade deadline. If the Bruins are still struggling, perhaps we could actually see a shocking move after all.
