Coyotes officially Exploring Potential Arena Locations in New Arizona City
Add another city to the list of potential new homes for the Coyotes. The difference with this one is the team would remain in Arizona.
New Information
According to Dennis Welch of CBS5 News in Phoenix, the team has already reached out to the city of Mesa, Arizona, and is looking at one particular site for a new arena. Welch cautions an arena in Mesa may require a public vote like the one in Tempe that the team lost this week.
"Latest: Mesa officials tell me the Arizona Coyotes reached out yesterday following their loss in Tempe. The team is eyeing the Fiesta Mall site - prime land in the East Valleys largest city. Caution: any potential arena deal there could require another public vote." - Dennis Welch
The Site
For anyone unfamiliar with the Fiesta Mall, it was once a major shopping destination in Mesa. Built in 1979, the building was shuttered in 2018 after years of lagging sales. In March of this year, it was announced that the former Fiesta Mall would be demolished in order to make way for potential new developments.
If the Coyotes are to stay in Arizona, this seems like a good fit if they can make it work.
