This off-season saw a historic amount of players heading from North America to the KHL, and one of those was Evgeny Kuznetsov, who spent the last 11 years in the NHL with the Washington Capitals and Carolina Hurricanes, winning one Stanley Cup alongside Alex Ovechkin. However, before his arrival in North America, he played in six seasons with the KHL, and now, he has linked up with Ska St. Petersburg, joining their star studded roster on a multi-year deal.
Unfortunately, after nine solid games to start the season, the team have announced on social media that the veteran forward has suffered an injury, one that will take up to two months to recover from.
With a star studded roster, the team are flying early in the season, posting a 6-3 record to have them sitting atop their division, and while Kuznetsov will be a big loss, there's confidence that they can stay afloat until the veteran returns. Through those nine games, Kuznetsov has posted one goal and five assists, showing that even with his injury history and the amount of games under his belt, he can still get it done at a very high level.
The biggest issue for the team is that he was the center for talented young winger Ivan Demidov, who is off to a red-hot start this year alongside the veteran, so while they've got plenty to work on and we hope that Kuznetsov will get healthy before seasons end, there is plenty of optimism in the team regardless.
