The constantly shifting narrative of Vegas Golden Knights goaltender Robin Lehner ahead of the 2024-25 season took another turn. The mess just got more inconvenient for all parties involved on Friday.
According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Natalie Cox ruled to freeze Lehner and wife Donya's assets upon request by Aliya Growth Fund. The fund claims the couple has engaged in frivolous spending since filing bankruptcy in 2022 and secretly moved money into accounts not associated with their creditors.
Aliya Growth Fund is seeking to recover $4.8 million that they say the couple owes.
The couple initially filed for bankruptcy last December, citing debts that fall between $10 million and $50 million. A significant contributor to that debt was Lehner's purchase of RL Exotics LLC, an exotic snake breeding company.
Despite the bankruptcy, it would appear that the Lehners have kept right on spending, which Judge Cox has curbed: Lehner can only withdraw $25,000 a month for living expenses and attorney fees henceforth.
In the midst of those financial difficulties, Robin Lehner skipped training camp earlier this month, and nobody knew if he'd ever play for the Golden Knights or in the NHL again. He was to start the final year of his five-year deal that carries a yearly $5 million cap hit.
