Former scout reveals a conspiracy theory around 2024 draft pick Artyom Levshunov
Today a new interview with former NHL scout Grant McCagg has revealed potential controversy surrounding the selection of Artyom Levshunov in the 2024 NHL Draft.
The Chicago Blackhawks were once again selecting near the top of the NHL Draft having the 2nd overall selection. With their pick, they chose Michigan State defenseman Artyom Levshunov.
Connor Bedard announcing Artyom Levshunov as Chicago's No. 2 overall pick in 2024 NHL Draft. #Blackhawks This selection was seen as a good one overall for the Chicago Blackhawks as they get a mature defenseman who is close to being NHL-ready within a couple of years. However, today former NHL scout Grant McCagg has a more sinister reason for why Artyom Levshunov might be more mature than his peers.
Former NHL scout Grant McCagg claims Artyom Levshunov is not 18
In a new segment on the Recrutes Draftcast former Montreal Canadiens scout Grant McCagg spoke about the selection of Artyom Levshunov. While discussing the pick Grant McCagg revealed that there is concern by some around the NHL that Artyom Levshunov is lying about his age.
There is a concern, and I've heard more than one, is he really the age that he purports to be?" asked McCagg. "That part of the world there's been some players in the past that their birth certificates weren't necessarily truthful.
He continued and talked about Artyom Levshunov's time with the Green Bay Gamblers as a 16-year-old. He points out that even back then there were people saying that Artyom Levshunov did not look his age.
I mean this kid has looked 18 for 3 years, you know what I mean? asked McCagg. He came over to Green Bay last year and everyone is saying 'There's no way this kid is 16, he just isn't' so there is that question as well. What if he is like 20 years old?
At this point, Grant McCagg is the only source that has expressed any concern over the age of Artyom Levshunov either before or after the draft. Regardless of the validity of this theory the Chicago Blackhawks have selected and signed Artyom Levshunov who is now expected to play in the AHL during the 2024-25 season.
As the offseason continues it will be interesting to see if any more comes of this theory or if it will remain just one person's opinion of the situation.
