The Chicago Blackhawks were once again selecting near the top of the NHL Draft having the 2nd overall selection. With their pick, they chose Michigan State defenseman Artyom Levshunov.
This selection was seen as a good one overall for the Chicago Blackhawks as they get a mature defenseman who is close to being NHL-ready within a couple of years. However, today former NHL scout Grant McCagg has a more sinister reason for why Artyom Levshunov might be more mature than his peers.
In a new segment on the Recrutes Draftcast former Montreal Canadiens scout Grant McCagg spoke about the selection of Artyom Levshunov. While discussing the pick Grant McCagg revealed that there is concern by some around the NHL that Artyom Levshunov is lying about his age.
He continued and talked about Artyom Levshunov's time with the Green Bay Gamblers as a 16-year-old. He points out that even back then there were people saying that Artyom Levshunov did not look his age.
At this point, Grant McCagg is the only source that has expressed any concern over the age of Artyom Levshunov either before or after the draft. Regardless of the validity of this theory the Chicago Blackhawks have selected and signed Artyom Levshunov who is now expected to play in the AHL during the 2024-25 season.
As the offseason continues it will be interesting to see if any more comes of this theory or if it will remain just one person's opinion of the situation.
