The Columbus Blue Jackets appear intent on moving David Jiricek, and now the list of suitors is narrowed down to three with a move coming very soon.
For weeks now, it has appeared only a matter of time until the Columbus Blue Jackets trade David Jiricek, with his recent demotion to the AHL likely the final straw for the talented young defenseman.
On Tuesday, it was revealed just how desperate Pittsburgh Penguins GM Kyle Dubas is to acquire the former No. 6 overall draft pick, and now they've been named as a finalist to land him.
On Wednesday, ESPN's Emily Kaplan followed up this report by naming the Buffalo Sabres and Minnesota Wild as the other two teams that as of right now, remain front runners to land the 20-year-old standout.
«David Jiricek very available. I think they've narrowed it down to a handful of teams. Can we get a guy that's young and can help us right now? Pittsburgh Penguins, Minnesota Wild, Buffalo Sabres. I would expect something to get done quite soon.»
At this point, it's unclear which of the three has the best shot at acquiring Jiricek, but given the promise he's shown along with his impressive size, it's safe to say that the return for Columbus will be massive.
The Penguins have already offered any prospect, including Rutger McGroarty, and while little is known about what other teams are offering, it's clear that Jiricek will be competing in the NHL at a high level very soon.
With this long-winded story about to culminate, we will see a fresh start for a former No. 6 overall draft pick, and if he can turn that potential into production, we may be looking at one of the best defensemen in the NHL at some point over the next few years.
