Meredith Gaudreau, wife of Johnny Gaudreau, is set to receive his salary following his death, and new reports have revealed just how much money she will get.

It has been more than a week since brothers Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau died at the wheels of an intoxicated driver. It was during that moment that the hockey world was unified in mourning, as the Gaudreau family was getting ready for arguably one of the most painful things they will ever have to prepare for: their two sons/brothers' funeral. And details began to surface concerning the National Hockey League's insurance policy, and what Johnny's wife Meredith was entitled to.

Online reports said Meredith Gaudreau would receive the financial value of one year of Johnny Gaudreau's salary plus $1 million. The listed salary for Johnny Gaudreau this past season had been $9.75 million for 2024-2025. It is unknown whether he had any further life insurance policies where she would be a beneficiary. Because of the collective bargaining agreement, especially section 23.6, set forth by the NHL, it has the following stated regarding the player's death:

23.6 (c) In the event of the death of a Player, the Player's spouse at the time of the Player's death shall have the right to elect continuation of coverage for her lifetime, provided that the Player would have otherwise qualified for such continuation under Sections 23.6(a) or b.

There may well be reason to believe that Meredith Gaudreau will receive an additional family health insurance payment since Johnny Gaudreau was apparently eligible.
