The Dallas Stars have been found in potential violation of the NHL's Collective Bargaining Agreement, and now the organization faces a hefty fine for participating in an optional skate while the league was on mandatory break.

Over the holiday break, all NHL teams are on mandatory leave between December 24 and 26, and during that time, it's been made clear that no team activities are allowed for the break.

While 31 NHL teams were able to follow the simple rules, it appears that may not be the case for the Dallas Stars, as a report has now been revealed that they held an optional practice at the facility on Boxing Day.

That report comes from Robert Tiffin of Stars Thoughts, as he revealed the team is being investigated by the NHL for their actions, as they potentially face a fine for the direct violation of the NHL's Collective Bargaining Agreement.

When asked to comment on the situation, Head Coach Peter DeBoer did indeed admit that the team held an optional skate, while revealing that he knows the league is looking into it, and if they find something it was a clear mistake that he made that he was unaware of.

"Optional, yeah. Voluntary ice." Said he is aware the NHL is looking into it.

"I'm assuming if the League's looking into it, I made a mistake somewhere there. We'll see what that investigation comes up with."

The simple fact that DeBoer isn't aware that a mistake was made is shocking, and with the league looking into it, Tiffin has reported that the organization themselves are investigating and cooperating fully with the NHL.

For now ,though, it's a silly move from the Stars to hold a practice on mandatory break, so now we simply wait to see what the NHL's investigation turns up.
