Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid have spent their fair share of time in the spotlight in recent months, and recent comments from Robert Thomas of the St. Louis Blues thrust them back into it with the 2024/25 season quickly approaching.
In that report, Thomas claimed that both players appeared angry once the news broke, but when asked about it, both McDavid and Draisaitl denied that report, claiming they were simply surprised by the move.
On paper, Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg hadn't established themselves with the Oilers yet, but with the team needing cheap depth given the impending pay bumps of McDavid, Draisaitl and Evan Bouchard, the team could have used them this season. That's not happening now with the Oilers deciding to match neither offer from the Blues, and while both of Edmonton's leaders were surprised at the time, the team have added plenty of pieces to replace them, and will come into next season full of confidence.
It's unclear if there was any hard feelings between the two and Robert Thomas who originally made the comment, but with Thomas, Broberg and Holloway all in St. Louis now, it may add some more spice to what was likely going to be one of the most one-sided matchups in hockey this season.
