The 1,000-game veteran James van Riemsdyk has signed a new contract with a Western Conference team, according to multiple reports.

With players returning to their organizations' facilities ahead of the start of training camps, teams are making final adjustments to their rosters. In the past few days, several players have signed professional tryout contracts. Sometimes, teams use these contracts to create internal competition during camp, but others see them as real possibilities to add depth to their lineup for the season.

The renowned veteran James van Riemsdyk could be in either of those positions, as he reportedly agreed to the terms of a PTO with the Seattle Kraken organization.

While they made crucial additions to their team during the offseason, with players such as Chandler Stephenson and Brandon Montour, they aren't the team with the most depth in the league.

Van Riemsdyk, 35, could have a real shot at making the team and forcing general manager Ron Francis to offer him a standard player contract at the end of training camp.

The left-winger has played 1,011 NHL games in his career during the regular season, as well as 82 playoff games for the Philadelphia Flyers, Boston Bruins, and Toronto Maple Leafs. In his career, he has tallied 629 points, including 311 goals. Last season with the Bruins, he showed that he can still bring a lot to a team's bottom six by scoring 38 points, including 11 goals, in 71 games.
