For the past week, most of the talk in the NHL has revolved around Ryan Reaves and his hit to the head of Darnell Nurse that resulted in a well deserve five-game suspension.
Now, for the first time, Oilers star Darnell Nurse has spoken about the hit, and unsurprisingly, he doesn't believe it was a 'play gone wrong' as GM Brad Treliving recently described it.
Looking very battered and bruised from the hit that left his jersey and his visor bloodied, Nurse didn't appear to be in a forgiving mood after the hit from Reaves that garnered him plenty of social media backlash.
Nurse made it clear that he believed Reaves was out to injure someone on the ice, and given the NHL's attempt to improve player safety on the ice, a dirty hit like this certainly shouldn't be acceptable.
Following the hit, Nurse has yet to return to the ice as he deals with the concussion symptoms that come with this type of play, and for a struggling Oilers team, this is the last thing that they need.
It has been reported that Reaves has tried to reach out to Nurse following the play, but given the Maple Leafs veteran's history of play on the ice, it's safe to say that few believe he was out there to do anything other than hurt an opposing player.
These two teams have one remaining game against each other this season, and seeing as how Nurse has reacted here, there's no doubt that when that meeting comes around, this situation will need to be addressed on the ice.
